Freddie Roach

A Brooks High School football standout who rushed for over 3,000 career yards, 500 tackles, and 11 blocked kicks. Roach was rated the No. 2 linebacker in the state in 2000. He was a two time All-State pick and was the American General “Back of the Year”. He was also a Super Senior selection by the Birmingham News and No. 5 on The Tuscaloosa News Sweet Sixteen. He signed to play with the University of Alabama. He redshirted his freshman year in 2001. What a sensational season he had as a freshman in 2002. He was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team and Freshman All-American. He was the Tides sixth leading tackler. One of his most memorable plays came against MTSU when he returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown with just 3 minutes remaining in the game. He had a season high 10 tackles in that game. As a sophomore Roach was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year by The Sporting News. He was the Tides fifth leading tackler. He was a starter in 12 games and finished with 85 tackles. Roach was his team’s fourth leading tackler his Junior year. He made Second Team All-SEC his Junior and Senior years. As a senior he started all 12 games and finished his career ranked 10th on the Tides all time tackle list with 272 career stops.
