Was selected to the All-Area and All-County football teams his junior and senior years at Brooks High School. His teams three year record was 28-2. He was selected to play strong safety in the North South All-Star game. He ended up kicking and punting in the game. He was also a three year starter on the basketball team. He was highly recruited to play football in college. He chose Jacksonville State University. At JSU he was known for his hitting power. He played several positions; strong safety, outside linebacker, inside linebacker, kicker, and punter. He was voted GSC player of the week against Livingston when he recorded three sacks, caused two fumbles, and had two tackles for loss of yards. After his playing days ended he became an assistant coach responsible for the defensive ends at JSU. The highlight of his coaching career was winning the 1992 Division II National Championship against Pittsburgh State.
